Why firefox looks strange in Haiku

Michael Lotz gave this hint in #haiku today:

the fonts in firefox are not broken, it just uses the wrong ones
it uses the "extra light" versions of dejavu
if you delete those firefox will look normal.

So how Firefox chooses fonts or the order returned by Haiku needs looking into.
